Topic: Treating Co-Occurring Gambling Disorder and other Mental Health Problems
Presenter: David Ledgerwood, PhD
Moderator: Daniel Blackwood, LPCC

Most research examining the effectiveness of behavioral treatments for gambling disorder (GD) have focused only on gambling and the symptoms of GD. However, decades of studies have shown that the vast majority of individuals with GD also have other psychiatric conditions. Very few studies have explored treatment approaches that treat GD concurrently with other conditions such as depression, substance use disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Ledgerwood will integrate research and case-example to demonstrate the need for treating GD and co-occurring conditions concurrently. He will also share findings of a recently completed clinical trial examining the use of a trauma-informed treatment approach for treating co-occurring GD and PTSD.

Objectives
-Learners will be aware of the most recent scientific literature on the treatment of co-occurring gambling disorder and psychiatric conditions
-Learners will engage in discussion of case examples within the context of recent research findings
-Learners will be aware of new clinical trial data exploring treatment of co-occurring trauma and gambling disorder, and how this study may be applied to clinical settings
